Medicare notes for Florissant
Florissant had 52,533 residents in the 2020 census. The Old St. Ferdinand Shrine, with a church built in 1821, anchors the west end of Old Town Florissant. For hospital care, Christian Hospital, part of BJC, is on Dunn Road, and SSM Health DePaul Hospital is in nearby Bridgeton. Veterans can get care at the VA clinic on Parker Road or at John Cochran Veterans Hospital on North Grand Boulevard in the city.
Christian Hospital and DePaul belong to different systems, BJC and SSM Health. A Medicare Advantage plan may include one and not the other, so check where your doctors admit patients before you enroll. A Medicare Supplement such as Plan G or Plan N covers either one, and any doctor who takes Medicare. Most Advantage plans include Part D, while a Supplement needs a separate drug plan, so bring your list of prescriptions when you compare. If your income is limited, ask about Extra Help for drug costs and Missouri's Medicare Savings Programs, which can pay your Part B premium. Missouri SHIP can help with both applications at no charge.
Transit help is close. Metro's Transit Access Center moved to the North County Transit Center at 3140 Pershall Road in Ferguson in May 2026. That's where riders 65 and older, or anyone with a Medicare card, can apply for a Reduced Fare Permit for half fare on MetroBus and MetroLink. Riders with a disability can also start a Call-A-Ride application there. Call ADA Services at 314-982-1510 first to ask about hours and what to bring.
The Florissant Senior Center, inside the JFK Community Center on Howdershell Road, offers fitness classes, card clubs, day trips and a lunch program. The Social Security office is at 880 Rue St. Francois. Aging Ahead handles Meals on Wheels and caregiver help. For free counseling, call Missouri SHIP. For plan prices that match your doctors, call us.
Where to go from here: read how Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans differ, look at Part D drug costs, or lay out your turning-65 dates.
